What is a Mobile Key?

You probably use a mechanical key to open your home everyday right? That is your physical key. A Digital Key is a mobile key securely stored on your electronic device. This can be your smartphone, smart watch, or even your iPad or Tablet. A Digital Key essentially is a secure number stored on your device which will grant you access to rooms if valid.

How does a Mobile Key work?

The technology generates an encrypted Digital Key which is transferred via data connection to your smartphone (or any other compatible smart devices) as an authorised user. This Digital Key is stored in a secure vault on your smartphone. When your smartphone is placed in front of the door lock reader your Digital Key and secure information is exchange granting you instant keyless access. The Digital Key will grant you access to assigned doors and for selected access time period.

How do you receive a Mobile Key?

A Digital Key is provided by your accommodation provider when your room is ready. In many instance Mobile Access is granted at the moment of Check-In at the reception of your hotel. In some instances Digital Keys are provided automatically when your is ready and when you have completed an online Check-In with payment and additional verifications!

From a guests perspective how does FLEXIPASS work?

GUESTS open the FLEXIPASS APP, enter a unique One Time CODE provided by the accommodation provider and are immediately granted access to their room . Yes that's it. FLEXIPASS is Super Fast and intelligent. In some instances guests are also granted with a connection to FLEXIPASS PLUS giving access to innovative guest services.

What if the phone battery dies?

The world’s leading door lock providers as ASSA ABLOY Global Solutions, Dormakaba and SALTO Systems connect with FLEXIPASS enabling guests to access their via Digital Keys or also via a physical KeyCard. Should your smartphone be without battery then your accommodation provider should be able to provide you with a physical KeyCard. With FLEXIPASS Digital Keys and Physical Keycards can be used at the same time.

What if I loose my smartphone with a Mobile Key? Can someone enter my room if they find it?

Inform your accommodation provider immediately as they will be able to provide you with a new Digital Key or physical KeyCard which can override your prior Digital Key. Your accommodation provider an even revoke a Digital Key at any time. And in most instances smartphones are secured by a PIN CODE, Touch ID or FACE ID and therefore not granting unauthorised users to access your phones content and Digital Key.

Can more than one person use Mobile Keys?

Yes multiple Digital Keys can easily be granted by your accommodation provider. And you can even have multiple Digital Keys as also physical KeyCards working at the same time. All you have to do is ask at your hotels front desk reception for additional Digital Keys.

But wouldn’t the previous guest still be able open the door after a new check-in?

No. Digital Keys are valid only for specific windows of time, defined by you accommodation provider. On Check-Out Digital Keys are revoked. In most cases this happens automatically are Property Management Solutions will inform FLEXIPASS to revoke Digital Keys. It is also possible to revoke Digital Keys via the FLEXIPASS Portal managed by your accommodation provider.
